Anthony Hughes, Lord Hughes of Ombersley
Anthony Philip Gilson Hughes, Lord Hughes of Ombersley, Kt, (born 11 August 1948 in St Albans, Hertfordshire) is an English judge of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. He was previously a Lord Justice of Appeal and Vice-President of the Criminal Division from 24 April 2006, following the retirement of Lord Justice Rose, to 9 April 2013.
He was educated at Tettenhall College, Wolverhampton and obtained a Bachelor of law degree from Van Mildert College, University of Durham. 〔(Profile at Burke's Peerage (subscription required) )〕 He was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1970 and was a Crown Court Recorder from 1985 to 1997, being Head of Chambers until 1997 of No.1 Fountain Court Chambers, Birmingham. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1990, and a judge of the High Court of Justice, Family Division, from 1997 to 2003. He served as Presiding Judge on the Midland circuit from 2000 to 2003, and transferred to the Queen's Bench Division from 2004 to 2006. On 9 April 2013, he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
